As one of the favorite bars in Tyngsborough, MA, our team would like to take a moment to recognize National Beer Can Appreciation Day. Yes, this is really a thing. On January 24th, the country stops to applaud and recognize one of the greatest days in history, the day in which the first beer can was sold in 1935. While it may not be a Mexican beer, we’re giving you an inside look to a day you probably didn’t even know existed!
Important dates in the life of a beer can
Like any national day, there is history within the recognition. Beer can appreciation day is no exception.
1935 – As we mentioned, this is the year that the country saw its first beer can. Produced by Krueger Brewing Company out of Richmond, Virginia, this hefty 4 ounce can changed beer as we knew, and know it today.
1963 – When you picture a beer can, or even soda can for the matter, the vision is ultimately the same. An aluminum can with a pull top to open. However, between 1935 and 1963, the ‘beer can’ was coned shaped. It wasn’t until this year that the pull top was introduced to consumers. Imagine that. Hats off to you Pittsburgh Brewing Company, with your revolutionary invention called the ‘pop top.’
