Have you ever been to an authentic restaurant and had trouble with the menu? Many times the excitement of the unknown gets us into a sticky situation.  Often times we find ourselves highly anticipating date night at the new restaurant down the road where we heard the food is fantastic. Once we are there, we have no idea what the dishes are that are being offered.  La Santa provides a variety of the best authentic Mexican cuisine in MA.  This article will highlight the differences between a few of their most popular dishes.

Quesadilla

One of the quickest dishes to make, the quesadilla is one of the best known Mexican dishes.  With its vast array of ingredients combined with tortillas and cheese, there is generally a combination to satisfy the likes of everyone.  Starting with two tortillas, a mixture of cheeses and chosen ingredients this meal can be fried or baked.

Burrito

Like the quesadilla, the burrito is customizable to whatever filing suits your needs.  Choose from ground or shredded beef, chicken, pork, or beans.  Wrap your ingredients in one large tortilla, and you’re good to go.  Although burritos were meant to be eaten by hand, most restaurants will serve them enchilada style.

Enchilada

Similar to the burrito in concept, the enchilada is intended to be a plated meal.  This rolled dish is covered in cheese and sauce and messier than the burrito!  Typically served with three or four smaller versions of the burritos, the enchilada is perfect for the smaller appetite.

Chimichanga

Similar to the burrito, the chimichanga is a large customizable meal.  The main difference between the two is that the chimichanga is deep fried.  There is debate over the history, but many say the origin of the chimichanga came to be by accident.  Thus the name, chimichanga, or thingamajig, came to be.

Churro

A popular dessert, the churro is the Mexican version of fried dough.  Often long and tube-like in appearance, this traditional sweet is dusted with sugar.  Although the churro is offered as dessert, it has been known to be a favorite breakfast item as well.
